Evaluation Question 2 :
After making our soap opera trailer we created 2 ancillary products for our trailer.
I chose to created a magazine front cover, and a billboard advertisement.
We came together as a group and decided what we wanted on our billboard and magazine, where we wanted it positioned and also names for our magazine.
Ancillary 1
We came together as a group and decided what we wanted on our billboard and magazine, where we wanted it positioned and also names for our magazine.
Ancillary 1
This is the first draft of our billboard. We decided to change the billboard as it did not follow all the conventions of a soap opera billboard. For example the name of the soap is not clear and easy to read so the audience do not know which soap it is. Also there is no caption which links to the story line, this will draw in the audience and make them want to know more.
These are the 3 images I used on my billboard, the characters from each story line where photographed together. I then removed the green from the back ground and placed them on the dark background
This is our final billboard, we decided to have the characters from each story line stood together so the audience recognize each story line and then the group the individual images together to bring the stories together.
I chose to have ' who killed Matt?' above the characters as the audience start to think about the question and want to know who did it. This makes them more likely to tune in and watch the soap so they can find out.
The darkness behind the characters connotes the darkness of the story line and the conflict between the characters.
I found this misfits poster as inspiration as it uses everything that we had visioned our billboard to have, such at the effects on the images and the darkness to the whole poster.
E4 style
we decided that our soap would be shown on E4 so we looked at the E4 style guide to get the conventions we needed to make a realistic poster, these included the exact colors, fonts and position of everything on the page
By using the style guide it helped us create a strong brand and realism.

The style guide told us that the font they use is american type write we were able to create the logo on the left to look like the existing one on the right.
Ancillary 2
We came together and came up with names for our magazine and then drew out a plan of what we wanted the front cover to look like and all inputted ideas.
we came with with 'on the box' box being another word for tv and this is what this magazine is aiming to do, let people know what is going to be on their tv.
The large picture that we used on the front of out magazine was from the main story line in our trailer as the main image on the magazine needs to link it to our trailer.
The large picture that we used on the front of out magazine was from the main story line in our trailer as the main image on the magazine needs to link it to our trailer.
The smaller story lines on the outside were from other members of our class so it was easier to create captions for the pictures as we knew the name of the soap and the story behind each of the characters.
'Matt's mysterious death' shows the narrative of our soap but it also helps to link it to our billboard.
We looked at magazines like 'tv easy' and copied the conventions that they used on their front covers. This included the positioning of everything on the cover, the texts, colours and fonts.
Continuity
in both of our ancillary products we wanted to make sure we had good continuity. We did this by making sure everyone wore the same costumes, this helps the audience recognize and get to know each character individually.
we also made sure story lines were clear and that the main one on a magazine was the same on that was shown on our poster.
